One of my favorite series, that I wish could have gotten more exposure. Softimage enables artists to use intuitive, nondestructive workflows to create stunning character animation and effects. Autodesk Softimage, formerly known as Softimage XSI, is a discontinued 3D software with versatile uses for creating characters, objects, and environments. the stiff and rigid nature of FMV, and the generally uglyness that's present in early 3d games. Autodesk Softimage software is a high-performance 3D character animation and visual effects application. I'd probably argue the original game "aged" the best, since polygons are more or less timeless, vs. Not pleasing to the eye outside of its time (though it was "neat" at the time, the same as how maybe the first tomb raider looked jaw dropping at release but today, its LOL) Part Three is literally one of the first 3d accelerated games- so that helps the fluidity of things and its a fully 3d modeled world and such, instead of static pre-rended backdrops- but its all very low polygon, low details, etc. Part Two is basically entirely an FMV (leveraging the CD-ROM format) using real actors and such- obviously it all looks real (but performances are very hammy) Part One is traditional 90s era Sierra Online point and click adventure style game- low rez sprites and such Not sure if its a fair comparision though given all three games are just wildly different in their overall presentation. Award-winning feature films, television productions and top-selling video games are made using Softimage. Click to shrink.Gabriel Knight is a really interesting case study. Softimage is a part of Avid Technology, Inc., and develops leading-edge 3D technology used in customer-centric solutions that enable professionals in the games, film and television industry to realize their creative vision.
